How to Apply Mineral Makeup

Things to remember:
  • Before any makeup application your skin should be clean and moisturized. Moisturizing is very important even for combination or oily skin types; just make sure the moisturizer has been fully absorbed before applying mineral makeup.
  • The golden rule with mineral makeup is that a little goes a long way.
  • By mixing several shades together, you can always get the one that is right for you.
  • When applying mineral makeup use the specifically designed makeup brushes to create an ideal, even-toned flawless look.

Primer is the first step in makeup that prepares the skin for easy Mineral Foundation application. Mineral Primer is applied with a large face brush. Starting at the forehead and cheeks, using light circular motions, apply the primer evenly to the entire face and neck. Pay special attention to your T-zone (sides and middle of the forehead, nose and chin). A sheer layer beneath your foundation is all you need.

When you need to cover skin issues, or to correct some skin flaws, our Mineral Corrector and Concealer are the ultimate solution. Use small concealer brush to cover small blemishes and dark under-eye circles. Use a larger face brush if you are concerned about sallowness or redness on areas like cheeks or forehead. Mineral Corrector and Concealer are best applied under mineral foundation rather than on top.

Mineral Foundation is applied with a large face brush with short, densely packed soft bristles. Sprinkle a small amount into the lid of your foundation jar, swirl your brush in the powder and tap the handle gently a few times to remove the excess. You should see only a light coat of powder on the brush. Sweep the brush over your face in light circular motions to blend the mineral foundation into your skin. Very light buffing works best to bring out the qualities of minerals. Start with less than you think you will need - several light applications are better than a single heavy layer. Remember, mineral foundation should not be applied in large quantities or on damp skin - this will produce a cakey, uneven application.

To achieve a suntanned look, pick up a small amount of Bronzer with face brush and apply over those areas of your face that naturally catch the sun. Apply Blush with rounded or angled face brush in a gentle arc from the apples of your cheeks outward and slightly up. Start with a light layer and build up the color to the desired intensity with repeated strokes. Apply Bronzer and Highlighter over specific areas to easily contour your face.

Choose the eye shadow brush according to your needs. For dry application, lightly dip the brush in the Eyeshadow and gently tap the brush to shake off the excess powder. With a light hand press the brush against your skin transferring eye shadow to your eyelid for an even coverage. This patting technique of precise pressing motions works best to bring out the qualities of minerals. Add another layer to intensify the color as desired. For a precise line and bold color use wet application. Slightly dampen the brush to help the minerals adhere. Work the eye shadow into the brush slightly, and apply it in sweeping motions. You can smudge it with a dry brush later if you want a more subtle, diffused line.

To enhance your brows, dip a brush into the Brow Shadow or eye shadow that's one shade lighter than your natural brow shade. Tap off the excess and apply with upward strokes until the desired shape is achieved.

Our Mascara can be applied in a single or multiple layers to achieve desired look and effect. With careful curling motions, glide the mascara brush through your eyelashes, starting at lash roots all the way to the tips creating an even coat. For lifting eyelashes at the very corner of the eye, hold the brush at a 45-degree angle and glide through. Repeat the steps as needed.

Finish off your look with Luminizer or Veil. Use mineral veil to soften your contours and to complete your look. Pick up a bit of Veil with a large soft face brush and swirl the brush in the lid of your jar to evenly distribute the powder. You should see only a bit of powder on the bristles of the brush. Gently sweep onto the face to create a subtle air-brushed finish. Use Luminizer to add a soft radiant glow to your look. Choose larger brush to apply it evenly on entire face and if desired on the neck and décolleté or smaller one to highlight cheeks, eyes or lips.

As a final touch, enhance your lips with high shine by using Mineral Lip Gloss. Use the applicator wand to achieve a smooth, even finish. Start in the center of lips and smooth outwards toward corners of mouth. Apply in light layers to build to desired coverage.
